Driving drunk

My husband likes to keep me in the loop of the current on-goings of our world. You know, because I’m such a shut in. Actually, no sarcasm involved, ever since we got rid of cable, my withdrawal from CP24 has been real.

IF you’re American, CP24 is like… CNN but.. not just politics.

Anywho.

The new thing in Ontario is the breathalyzer debate. The cops are cracking down on drunk driving by allowing people to “tell on you” if you were drunk driving, and then they show up at your house, make you blow into the thingie, and if the thingie says you’re drunk then … you get charged.

We had a whole discussion about this, Chris and I. About the possible abuse of power, overreach of the law, taking advantage, etc, etc.

And, we generally agreed. It sucks. But, it needs to be done. How many families are destroyed because of some stupid drunk driver? Yes, okay, I realize this is a bit TOO much in terms of legal allowance. Technically, if they don’t catch you drunk BEHIND the wheel, then who is to say you were driving? There is that, of course.

But, and… I’m trying REALLY hard not to sound like Trump or.. Ford or… others, but in order to fight fire, you have to breathe fire. And this, is honestly a stupid thing that can be avoided if people just learn. It’s actual murder, you are getting behind the wheel of that car, and driving, you KNOW you’ve had booze and yet here you are. Dyou think you’re a hero? Dyou think you’ll be the one person that doesn’t crash into someone?! It’s… enough.

As a mom and wife, I value the lives of the people that surround me. So much so that I have no problem with this development. If someone wants to drive drunk, charge them. Throw them into jail, take their license away, I don’t care. If you are stupid enough to do so, then you’re an idiot. And you deserve all the consequences.

That being said, I hope there isn’t an abuse of power here. I really do. Because this opens the floodgates to a lot of potential problems and if those arise then no-one will ever take drunk driving seriously again. So, dear Police forces of all regions, please don’t go nuts. Please take the tips you get with a grain of salt. There are people who want someone else punished. There are people out there waging war on others. This can be their way of doing so. Please be careful. Be respective. and be fair.
